The Institute of Physics (IOP) is planning a week-long series of events in November 22 – 26 on Physics’s role in realising the green economy following on from the United Nations’ Climate Change Summit (COP-26) in Glasgow in November. The events will be held under Physics in the Spotlight banner -- the bi-annual gathering of the IOP’s special-interest groups. The draft programme includes:

  • Day 1 - Senior policy makers, industrialists and researchers will discuss the finding arising from COP26, and set out the role of Physics in realising the green economy.
  • Days 2-4 - Thought-provoking discussions and insights across academia and industry on emerging physics technologies and their applications.
  • Day 5 - Creative road mapping sessions to draw out challenges, opportunities, priorities and how to harness physics research and innovation to realise green economy.

The week-long event will include a mix of online and in person plenary sessions, panel discussions, online poster sessions for ECRs and prizes, hackathons, pitching along with informal networking and possible online exhibition.

This year’s steering committee includes members from the Nuclear Industry, Environmental, Materials and characterisation, Business Innovation and Growth, Physics Communicators, Nuclear and Combustion group committees.
